Half-life of ubiquinone and plastoquinone in spinach cells.
The half-life of plastoquinone (PQ), ubiquinone-9 (UQ-9) and ubiquinone-10 (UQ-10) in spinach tissue was determined. This was achieved by monitoring the decay of radioactivity incorporated into these lipids from a labeled precursor. The half-life of PQ was 15 h while for UQ-9 and UQ-10 it was longer, i.e. 30 h. The values of half-lives of PQ and UQ suggest a high rate of turnover of these lipid...
متن کاملPlastoquinone and Ubiquinone in Plants: Biosynthesis, Physiological Function and Metabolic Engineering
Plastoquinone (PQ) and ubiquinone (UQ) are two important prenylquinones, functioning as electron transporters in the electron transport chain of oxygenic photosynthesis and the aerobic respiratory chain, respectively, and play indispensable roles in plant growth and development through participating in the biosynthesis and metabolism of important chemical compounds, acting as antioxidants, bein...
متن کاملBiosynthesis of ubiquinone and plastoquinone in the endoplasmic reticulum-Golgi membranes of spinach leaves.
The localization of ubiquinone (UQ) and plastoquinone (PQ) biosynthesis in subfractions isolated from spinach leaves has been studied. UQ-9 and UQ-10 were found mainly in mitochondria, whereas PQ was enriched in chloroplasts, but also found in Golgi membranes. alpha-Unsaturated polyprenol-11 was also present at a low concentration in chloroplasts. Autoradiography revealed the presence of nonapr...
متن کاملCxciv. Effects of Colchicine and Related Substances
THE effects of the alkaloid colchicine as a mitotic poison were first described by Lits [1934] and Dustin [1934], and the nature of its action has been further studied recently by Ludford [1936]. Amoroso [1935] has reported experiments on the inhibition of tumour growth in mice and a dog by injection of colchicine, although uniform results have not been obtained by subsequent workers. In common...
متن کاملIARC reevaluates silica and related substances.
An IARC working group of 19 experts in chemical carcinogenesis and seven industrial or governmental observers met in October 1996 in Lyon to prepare updated monographs and evaluations on crystalline and amorphous silica, palygorskite (attapulgite), sepiolite, and wollastonite. Monographs on these agents were published previously in Volume 42 of the IARC Monographs (1). Also evaluated by the gro...
